final things from 2011 [Haiti]

Hello! We are terribly sorry for the delay in updating our blog on life in Haiti. With the holiday season, all of the American Chadasha staff left Haiti for Christmas and the New Year. It was just today that some of our staff returned to what they now call "home". Before life gets back in full swing here, we wanted to fill in the gaps and let you know what went on in Haiti the week that we left for a few weeks.

Baby KenKen, by the grace and mercy of our God, celebrated his first birthday on December 12th. His mom and dad called and we were honored to be invited to the birthday celebration. They were so proud of their baby boy and we couldn't have been more surprised to see how well he is doing.

It was a marvelous celebration of KenKen's 1st year of life. We are praying for many more to come, and we have seen God do unbelievable things before so we know that that's not a far-fetched prayer!

The second big event before we left involved one of the ladies who works for us at the Guest House, Clarianna. She is in her 30s and we just learned not long ago that she lost her husband and home in the earthquake in 2010. She has 3 children who are 3, 5, and 9. After seeing her smallest child and noticing an orange tint to her hair from malnourishment, we began to ask questions. Turns out, she and her children were living in a tent camp. She spends all her money sending her oldest 2 children to school and paying a babysitter to watch her youngest child while she works. All 3 children were dirty, malnourished, and in need of help. And we had no idea!

To make a long story short, we let Clarianna decide how she would like for us to help her. She thought it best for her 3 kids to live at Little Hands and Feet for now where they can get 3 meals a day, go to school, and get proper medical care and vitamins. This way she can save the money she is making to rebuild her house one day. So, in they came, and then there were 15!

And finally, the last big event was a Christmas Party for all the kids and the ladies at Little Hands and Feet. We loaded everyone up in the trucks and cars and drove all 20 of them to the Guest House where we had popcorn and cookies, music, the Christmas Story told, and presents. Also, we were able to Skype with some of the parents adopting children! The kids had an awesome time and the joy on their faces as well as the ladies' was absolutely priceless.

We hope that you had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and we hope that you will continue to journey with us as we move into 2012. May the Lord make Himself known to you in fresh and new ways in the coming year, and may you understand more and more the amazing Love of our Savior Jesus!

We will resume with more consistent updates hopefully this week :)
